The Role

Razum International School Singapore is recruiting for a School Principal to begin in August 2019 . The successful candidate will be a qualified teacher with international school and IPC teaching experience as well as a proven track record and experience in school leadership.

 

The Context

Razum International School Singapore (RISS) is newly formed international school in Singapore, serving the international school community. We are proud to provide quality, affordable education to international students. We provide a four hour teaching day from 9am-1pm and hold this as a point of difference that we are proud of. We provide a focused and creative learning environment that specifically grows student understanding in mathematics, literacy, humanities, and science whilst embracing art, music, dance and drama as an important tools in which to explore thinking and learning.  By being intentional in our programme, students finish at 1pm, allowing them the time needed for external coaches, training, and programmes, that have otherwise not been accommodated for in extended school days.

 

Main Working Relationships: The Academic Board/ School Board / Teaching staff 

Razum is a boutique school, aiming for 4 classes in our first year and 8-9 classes in our second. As a result we endeavour to provide a close, nurturing, family environment where staff work closely together as a team, planning and working together collaboratively; with students, parents and staff in partnership to create a dynamic and vibrant learning environment.  The Principal’s role will be to establish and maintain an exemplary school culture and environment, working with both the Academic board, School board, and Teachers.

 

The School Principal at Razum International School is responsible for building an effective  School Pedagogy

  • Have a student centered pedagogy that leads their practice and gives students the ability to construct and co-construct learning in a personal and collaborative environment

  • Assists teachers in building healthy and nurturing relationships with all students in their care with the outcome in mind to build students as life-long learners

  • Building structures for both formative and summative assessment strategies and systems

  • Creates a culture in which teachers will, plan and teach for the differentiated needs of all students in their care

  • Providing appropriate and actionable feedback to all staff

  • Utilising and consistently using reflective practices in all aspects of the School

  • Promoting student ownership and engagement in all aspects of the curriculum

  • Committed to parent partnerships that include regular feedback, reporting and celebrations

 

Curriculum:

  • Committed to a high level of curriculum knowledge, including: skills, understandings, concepts, values and progressions

  • Utilising appropriate and effective metacognitive and reflective practices into the curriculum

  • Provides support to teaching staff that allows them to adapt their teaching style and delivery of the curriculum to best meet the learning needs of their class

  • Prepares, presents and communicates reports and assessment data to parents and other stakeholders as required

  • Available to support and be available to  all primary grades in the school

  • Working with staff to plan and develop a curriculum progression that builds throughout the grades.

  • Actively upskilling and developing personal practice

  • Continually looking for opportunities to improve learning and teaching strategies in keeping with latest research and ’best practice’

  • Developing knowledge and skills related to primary education

  • Actively participating in the school’s appraisal procedures

  • Actively conducting appraisal procedures that empower and support the needs of teachers

  • Personally committed to goal setting and is a ‘life long’ and reflective learner

  • Committed to contributing to the development and training of colleagues as a coach, mentor and peer

  • Ensures that the classroom and school’s physical environment is one that reflects the values and vision of the school, whilst celebrating learners and the learning process

Curriculum delivery

  • Responsible for ensuring that a creative, dynamic, inquiry led IPC curriculum is delivered within the 4 hour teaching day

  • Working with staff to provide meetings, training sessions and parent meetings that sit within and outside of the classroom timetable. understanding that these times may vary and necessary responsibilities need to be fulfilled)

  • Actively responding to the needs of the school by ensuring that trips, camps, performances and excursions are being planned and run in a way that balances the school calendar whilst providing a healthy range of experiences for learners; being aware of the needs of the community.

  • Working with administrative staff to ensure that timetables, rosters, structural procedures are being established and maintained.

 

Other projects, duties and responsibilities:

  • Having a working knowledge of teachers' professional duties and legal liabilities

  • Representing an awareness and understanding of the stated policies and practices of the school

  • Working with colleagues and management to source learning and teaching resources for all curriculum areas.

  • Establishing effective and appropriate relationships with colleagues and parents

  • Upholding a high level of presentation and personal and professional conduct

  • Collaborating with other staff to ensure resources, experience and personal knowledge benefit of the school and learners

  • Leading the corporate life of the school through effective participation in meetings and management systems necessary to coordinate the management of the school

  • Taking responsibility for marketing and liaison activities such as Open Days and events with other stakeholders

  • Any other reasonable request from the Board or administration to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Native English speaker

  • A degree plus teaching qualification (or equivalent)

  • Higher degree or recognized professional qualification (preferred) Evidence of continued relevant professional development

  • Experience in School leadership

  • A good track record of leadership and in pioneering new communities.

  • Experience in teaching elementary grades in international schools

  • Experience in an international school environment

  • Experience with IPC (preferred)
