Teaching Assistant

The Role

Razum International School Singapore is recruiting for a Teaching Partner. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about working with children and teachers. You will be working along side teaching and administrative staff to assist with roles and tasks that support the delivery of the curriculum.


 

The Context

Razum International School Singapore (RISS) is newly formed international school in Singapore, serving the international school community. We are proud to provide quality, affordable education to international students. We provide a four hour teaching day from 9am-1pm and hold this as a point of difference that we are proud of. We provide a focused and creative learning environment that specifically grows student understanding in mathematics, literacy, humanities, and science whilst embracing art, music, dance and drama as an important tools in which to explore thinking and learning.  By being intentional in our programme, students finish at 1pm, allowing them the time needed for external coaches, training, and programmes, that have otherwise not been accommodated for in extended school days.

 

Main Working Relationships: The School Principal/ Administrative staff / Teaching staff 

Razum is a boutique school, aiming for 4 classes in our first year and 8-9 classes in our second. As a result we endeavour to provide a close, nurturing, family environment where staff work closely together as a team, planning and working together collaboratively; with students, parents and staff in partnership to create a dynamic and vibrant learning environment.  TheTeaching Partner’s role will be to support and maintain the school culture and environment, working with both the Princial, Admin, and Teachers.

 

The Teaching Partner’s role is to support pedagogy

  • Have a student centered pedagogy that supports students in independent and collaborative learning

  • Build nurturing relationships with students

  • Support structures for assessment; including online, portfolios, data collection, photography, and observational notes

  • Provides feedback on student observations

 

Curriculum:

  • Assists with lesson planning, materials preparation

  • Assisting students in reflection and having a classroom approach that ‘asks’ rather than ‘tells’

  • Assists with preparing, organising, categorising and maintaining teacher resources.  resources.

  • Assists in the provision of assessment data

  • Available to support and be available to  all primary grades in the school

  • Working with staff to support and develop a curriculum progression that builds throughout the grades.

 

A valued contributor to professional teacher and learning development

  • Actively upskilling and developing personal practice

  • Continually looking for opportunities to improve learning and teaching strategies in keeping with latest research and ’best practice’

  • Developing knowledge and skills related to primary education

  • Actively participating in the school’s appraisal procedures

  • Personally committed to goal setting and is a ‘life long’ and reflective learner

  • Committed to contributing to the development and training of colleagues as a coach, mentor and peer

  • Ensures that the classroom and school’s physical environment is one that reflects the values and vision of the school, whilst celebrating learners and the learning process

Curriculum delivery

  • Responsible for supporting a creative, dynamic, inquiry led IPC curriculum is delivered within the 4 hour teaching day

  • Attending all required meetings, training sessions and parent meetings that sit within and outside of the classroom timetable. understanding that these times may vary and necessary responsibilities need to be fulfilled)

  • Supporting and supervising on trips, camps and excursions.

 

Other projects, duties and responsibilities:

  • Having a working knowledge of the Teacher Partner’s professional duties and legal liabilities

  • Establishing effective and appropriate relationships with colleagues and parents

  • Upholding a high level of presentation and personal and professional conduct

  • Collaborating with other staff to ensure resources, experience and personal knowledge benefit of the school and learners

  • Any other reasonable request from the Principal or Teaching staff to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Native english speaker

  • A teaching qualification (or equivalent)

  • Experience in teaching or as a teaching assistant within international schools

  • A good track record, working with students and teachers.

  • Experience in elementary grades in international schools

  • Experience in an international school environment

  • Experience with IPC (preferred)
